This page has been used in the past as a place for me to post gift ideas for family… I would post stuf f as I thought of it, and wouldn’t have to worry about not having ideas, especially for my mom. For now though, I’m going to use it as a general repository of stuff I wanna get. If someone (like you maybe?) wants to bestow a gift upon me, by all means…. but some of the stuff here is likely too expensive for a casual gift. Maybe after the second date.
Did some camping this year, and got a few things for my last birthday… but here’s some other stuff yet.
Squishy Bowls. They’re silicone bowls. I saw the bowl/cup set which I definitely want, but they also have a large bowl, and little shot glass set. Not sure of color tho… the green is kinda too limey, the blue too light, so maybe Red, so I don’t have to worry about losing it if I drop it? I saw these at REI.
Sea to Summit makes a number of things I want to get… many also silicone based. I’m been working on downsizing my camping gear… and these collapsible mugs, plates and bowls fit right in to that. The X Mug, X Bowl & X Plate are all made from silicone in a way they fold up flat.
I did get one set of these in red, would probably be nice to have another set on the off chance I go camping with someone.
Sea to Summit also have a folding water bucket that would be handy… which I did get. The 2 gallon works great for hauling wash water, or keeping by the fire, just in case. And their kitchen sink product looks interesting, and I’ll likely get one once my current one dies on me.
One other product they have that I think I should get is The Outhouse. I have a similar product for a roll of paper towel, and I always carry TP with me camping… but right now it’s just stuffed in a zip-lock baggie. They actually have a lot of nice looking product on their site, and I’m sure I’ll be looking close at more of them down the road.
Now this next item is something that’s been in the back of my mind for years. I like grilling, and while I received a wonderful gas grill as a birthday gift a couple years back, I miss cooking with charcoal. Not to mention, it’s almost too big for just me. And I’ve also always had a thing for cast iron. Enter, the Lodge Sportsmans Grill.
They do sell them at Kitchen Window in Calhoun Square… will likely look at getting this next spring.
I still need a nice frame for a 24″x34″ print that I have… it’s a print of dalmatians. Black metal would probably be nice, flat – not shiny, or dark wood since most everything else I have is wood… and I have a couple of older Spider-Man posters that I would like to re-frame and put up in my home office.
Of course, even with everything going on I spend more time than ever in the kitchen. Well, maybe because of it, since I eat almost no prepared foods anymore. So kitchen gadget stuff is always a bonus. Things like decent digital timer, instant-read thermometer, a salt cellar (like the one in the picture there) are a few things I’m still looking to pick up.
A couple desktop beverage warmers would be nice. One for work, one for home.
This is a “laptop lunchbox” – blue, primary or whimsical colors would work. They have them on Amazon, but I think reusablebags.com has a slightly better cost, before shipping at least.
Clothes are something I’ve been going through a lot of this year, but … it’s not that I’m picky, but I’d rather buy my own clothes. So I suppose there are always gift cards to the usual places, Gander Mountain, Target, etc. BUT, one thing that I would like more of that is an easy thing to buy – socks. Specifically wool socks. Yup, the old fashioned, grey wool. Fleet Farm I know carries them still. Also, sock liners. They’re the really thin socks that help wick moisture that you wear under another pair of socks. And along with that… I could probably use an iron. I have a small travel one, but an actual iron that steams and stuff would come in handy.
I’ve toyed around a bit with PHP and MySQL – which to most of you that know me, means slightly more than nothing. Suffice to say, I want/need to learn more. I found out about a book that might be nice to have. Head First SQL – it’s about $25 on Amazon.
Another book I recently found that might be nice to have is Ubuntu Kung Fu. Also under $25 at Amazon.
As far as other reading, I still read a fair amount, but I have been reading eBooks on my phone and such. And there are a couple of titles I would like to get from Mobipocket.com – Michale Crichton’s State of Fear, and there are two by Vince Flynn I want to get – Protect and Defend and the latest Extreme Measures. Actually, I think another new one just came out as well… Prices vary on here, and unfortunately they don’t have a gift card/certificate option. There may be sites that offer them, but this site has the books in a format I know I can use. So maybe a VISA gift card that I could use towards buying them would be an alternative.
My phone is the Palm Pre, and at work I have a Touchstone charger. It’s slick, just set the phone on there and it charges. No cords to worry about. I want another… well, two more actually. I’d love to have one for my home desk, and one for the Jeep. I don’t need the full setup, just the Touchstone itself. Precentral seems about the best deal on just the charger pad.
