Why do I do this?

I… have no idea.

Why does anyone write a blog?

Ok, there are lots of reasons. But what about the ones like this site, where it’s just my personal crud. When it comes to ranting, yea, it can be cathartic to write stuff, get it out there. We all would like to have that place where we can just let ‘er rip. But the stuff that really eats at you, the things you reaaaaaaaly want to say - you can’t. Can you?

At least not on a site where anyone knows it is you.

Cause in the end, you do not really write for yourself, you write because you want others to read it. And there is that line out there that you do not always see until you have already taken a step or ten across it.

How do you complain about your boss on your personal blog, knowing there is a chance of them finding it… or maybe worse yet, the person that you hope is your next boss finding it. After all, a good employer these days would be foolish not to Google prospective hires, look for their MySpace or Facebook pages to see what they are “really like”.

Can you really break down and just gripe about [insert any person you have regular contact with here] when there is that chance of them finding it and then confronting you as to why you didn’t talk to them about it face to face? Or maybe worse, not coming to you about it.

Some people can I suppose.

There are lots of things I could say, that I probably never will in a setting like this. There is always the option of starting a blog somewhere generic, on Blogger, or Wordpress.com where nobody knows me and just letting it all hang out. In the end I guess I have always had too much … respect maybe? for others in general to hide behind the anonymous facade of the internet. So I guess I stick to writing about stuff I like. Things that interest me, in the hope that maybe someone else may find interesting as well.

But going down the dark side, at times it is tempting.

Would you? Could you? Do you?

A very good question, and I guess I will say that–yes I could. Yes I do.

I realize that I will sometimes catch some whiplash, but that’s part and parcel for the deal I suppose.

I do believe that humans are capable of discussing, debating, and helping one another with well written advice as well as criticism like the wonderful human adults we all are.

The problem is that most people decide to use the anonymity of the internet to hide behind like a crutch, using it as an excuse for some of the most hateful, lame vitriolic spew-stuff I’ve seen, evar. And that’s a shame.
