Ok, I admit it - I have been having mixed success with getting a few things up and running in Ubuntu. Right now the major stumbling block is my MFC-240C printer, and viewing DVDs.
The forums at ubuntuforums.org have been helpful in many regards, but they are sooooo busy, I’m wondering if it can make it difficult to get the help you might need.
Sure, to start with you have to do some searching, find existing threads and such - but if you look at the Absolute Beginner Talk section alone, right now there are just under 1000 people viewing the 826,785 messages spread across 127,624 threads. The oldest post on the first page of threads listed is only 14 minutes old.
If you can’t find what you need, or aren’t sure… like in my case… if the x64 instructions for installing the mfc240c drivers is the same if you have a regular set up… you have to hope one of those thousand other people viewing the threads in the 15-20 minute span after your posting is put up will have any sort of knowledge that will help you. And when you figure more of the folks there are looking for help more than offering….
Makes you wonder how anyone is able to hook up with someone else to begin with.
